XJet Private Club Set To Open

A couple of years ago I wrote about the plans for the XJet Club, a new private jet club opening at the Centennial Airport in Colorado. Now it seems that the club is finally set to open next month (it was originally set to open last year). The club has a a Read the rest of this entry »

Boeing 787 Dreamliner VIP Edition

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which we heard about last October, just might be the fastest selling airplane in aviation history. It seems like all the big dogs want one, the latest being Hong Kong real estate tycoon Joseph Lau with his $153 million dollar 787 Dreamliner VIP Edition order. Once completed the Boeing will have 2,400+ square feet of luxurious space filled with amenities like vaulted ceilings, spiral staircases, and video wall displays.

And on a related note, new pictures have been released of the even bigger 4,786 sq foot 747 Dreamliner, complete with Skyloft feature. Gorgeous!

New Private Jet Company Planned For Greece

Planning a trip to Greece? You’ll soon have a sexy new private jet option. Embraer announced that K2 SmartJets will begin operations in Greece with one Legacy 600 jet. The company was founded this year by a bunch of entrepreneurs and plans to have two more jets in the feature. The $24.7 million jet holds 19 passengers and can fly to any city in the E.U. The Greek Air Force is already using the Legacy 600, but K2 SmartJets will be the first civilian based group to fly the jet out of Athens Airport. The company is set to launch in a little over a month.

Forbes Features the World’s Fastest Passenger Jets

Need to get someplace in a hurry? Forbes has your back.

Planes made by Dessault, Cessna and Gulfstream offer luxury and speed, most of them traveling at speeds above Mach 0.9 while providing an internet connection and TVs pumping DVD playback or a satellite steam. The Cessna Citation X tops the list, hitting Mach 0.92 and climbing to 43,000 feet in just 30 minutes, followed by planes such as the Gulfstream G550 and G450, which offer perks ranging from lighting sensors to security systems.

Gulfstream IV-SP

Gulfstream IV-SP

Oprah’s New Plane

We recently mentioned Oprah’s home improvements. Ever wonder how she commutes to her California home when she does her show in Chicago? Private plane, of course, and she will soon have a new plane to decorate. It has been reported that she will soon receive a custom-built Global Express XRS from Bombardier Aerospace. The $47-million executive jet has seating for 10 passengers and has a leather interior with designer fixtures for the bathroom and galley. There is an aft stateroom for naps as well as a crew rest area and of course a large main cabin with every amenity Oprah could possibly require.

Googlejet Versus other Rides

Hot on the heels of my post two days ago, reader Nick is quick to point out his own post on the 767 recently acquired by Google’s Brin and Page and how it measures up to other rides of famous CEOs.  The post shows how the 48.5m Googlejet stacks up next to Microsoft’s Paul Allen’s 757 and Oracle’s Larry Ellison’s Gulfstream V and is rife with conspicuous sexual innuendo.  Absent, however, are the lengths of Allen’s Octopus at 127m or the 138m Rising Sun owned by Ellison.

Reserve Your Own Flying Car

When we first heard about Terrafugia, the company developing one of the first flying cars that would also be able to drive on the roads, there was not yet a fully-functional, working prototype, but it is being built. The Transition drives like a car and can lower its 27-ft retractable wings when lift-off is required. It has a top speed of 130mph in the air, and gets about 30mpg whether flying or running on the road. Though the final designs are debuting this week, the cars will not be available to the public until 2009. You can put down a 5% deposit on the projected price of $148,000 right now to reserve one, though the final price is not guaranteed as of yet.
